IN1876 BY SMITH & TOWNSEND OF EAST BOSTON. OWNED BY DEGROOT & PECK, REGISTRY NEW YORK. SPENT MOST OF IT EXISTENCE IN THE EAST INDIES, CHINESE, AN/OR JAPANESE TRADE.
MADE THREE TRIPS FROM ATLANTIC PORTS TO SAN FRANCISCO, TWO OF THESE FROM NEW YORK CITY, ONE IN 1888. AFTER ABOUT THE FIRST DECADE OF THE 20TH C. SHE WAS SOLD TO PARTIES IN PERU AND CONVERTEDTO A BARGE.
SHIP ON RIGHT IS THE IRON-HULLED MANYDOWN , BLT.1884 SOUTHAMPTON,
FOR E.BATES & SONS, LIVERPOOL. RENAMED CAMBRIAN PRINCESS-1904, SUNK BY GERMAN U-BOAT MAR.1918.

ACCORDING TO ARCHITECTURAL HISTORIAN MARJORIE PEARSON, THE VIEW WAS MOST LIKELY MADE FROM ABOUT 25 BROADWAY, THE CURRENT LOCATION OF THE  CUNARD BUILDING.  TO THE RIGHT,WITH MANSARD ROOF, IS THE BUILDING THAT STOOD WHERE THE  STANDARD OIL BLDG. NOW STANDS.

THE CLOSE TOWER IN THE CENTER IS THE STEEPLE OF TRINITY CHURCH, WHICH IS ENVELOPED IN SCAFFOLDING.

THE NEXT TOWER IN THE DISTANCE IS  THE OLD WESTERN UNION BUILDING.
