A SEARCH FOR FRIENDS OF A/C ROY A. FORD OF CHICAGO

(1921-1984)

Flight 2 Squadron L, Class 45D

A/C Roy A. Ford was at Luke Field roughly in the years stated above...Roy had been an aviation cadet at the University of Indiana and exactly when he was drafted am not certain, but in his effects are all the photos and papers not only for his Luke Field days but also for his parents families.  Roy actually had two children, a boy and a girl. Roy was divorced in the early 50's and his children adopted. They grew up knowing that Roy was their father but their adopted father proved to be a genuine dad and both the children have had good lives. Now they will share in the knowledge of their birth father because the search for his children is now over and they will become the custodians of their birth father's possesions, including his Luke Field days.  My saga is over. The children will carry the memories and rightly so.

If possible I would like to find some of the people Roy knew while at Luke simply to find out more about him.  Aside from learning to fly like the others, Roy also worked in the photo lab - he had been a photographer before the war, as was his father.
Many of the photos are from the lab, and others from the infirmary where he spent some weeks, although I am not certain what kind of problem he had - physical injury or plain old illness. He looks well enough in the photos so who knows. There are even some Red Cross recordings in his effects made while at the infirmary, some talking to his partents, and others singing with a group of other patients-lots of corny silly stuff.
Unfortunately, most of the photos in Roy's possession didn't have names attached with a few exceptions.  The only two I knowof were "Celeste York of Alton, Ill. & "Brownie", who wore a military style jacket but no insignia-maybe she was volunteer or Red Cross or ?  They're photos are included here.
I would hope that anyone who knows any of these people  would get in touch with me to share some info.
