FELIX RUSSMANN
BY THOMAS YANUL - PAGE 3

THE PAGES THAT FOLLOW CONCERNING THE ART OF FELIX RUSSMANN ARE NOT  MEANT TO BE A THOROUGH AND COMPLETE COMPILATION OF HIS WORKS OR HIS LIFE, BUT RATHER A PUBLICLY & WIDELY AVAILABLE METHOD OF SHARING A VISUAL AND WRITTEN RECORD OF SOME OF THE ART AND LIFE OF THIS TROUBLED BUT SKILLED AMERICAN ARTISAN.
THERE IS NO REAL  BIOGRAPHY OF RUSSMANN.  NO COMPILATION OF HIS WORKS. HOPEFULLY THESE PAGES WILL ADD TO THE GENERAL ACCUMULATION OF FACTS, BOTH VISUALLY & HISTORICALLY.

THERE IS NO WAY TO KNOW NOW HOW OLD RUSSMANN  WAS WHEN HE BEGAN TO SERIOUSLY BECOME AN ARTIST. BUT ONE HAS TO ASSUME IT WAS SOME YEARS BEFORE HE ENTERED THE NATIONAL ACADEMY OF DESIGN IN 1904 AT THE AGE OF 16.
HE APPARENTLY WAS ALSO A PRECOCIOUS STUDENT OF THE VIOLIN AND LEGEND HAS IT THAT THERE WAS SERIOUS THOUGHT ABOUT WHICH PROFESSION TO PURSUE.
HE CONTINUED TO PLAY THE VIOLIN THROUGHOUT HIS LIFE, AND THOSE WHO HEARD HIM WERE MOST IMPRESSED.
